I'm sure windsurfing in this country always used to be about getting really frustrated with lack of wind for weeks, then one or two good sessions come along, ususally on bigger kit. Isn't it? Maybe I'm wrong. Windy this weekend....AGAIN!!!!

Unfortuntately no-one else was around, Gwyn was tied up with his parents visiting, so had to go to Lepe by myself, first though via Calshot to buy a new 2003 5.9 NP Jet! Woohoo!!! Fortunately, didn't have to use it today....

Thought it looked proper windy when I arrived at Lepe around midday, so rigged the 4.5 and pulled out the Quatro. But bollox it wasn't GRRRR. Turned out most of the other people on the water were on 5.0-5.5s. Still, the wind was gusting through quite strong at times. As usual had little trouble getting going on the way out, but really struggled when coming back in. Really dunno why that happens. So planed on and off for about an hour/hour and a half, drifting lots, getting a bit pissed off. Really couldn't be arsed though change up to the 5.2, since some stronger gusts were coming through occasionally, and I was sure it was meant to be picking up later.....

Which it did!!!! Suddenly around 3pm someone flicked the wind switch to "On", and I went from being underpowered to completely stacked in about 15 minutes! Couldn't believe my luck!!! Now this was what I'd come out for....a good 1-2 hours of manic overpowered blasting/jumping survival sailing oh yeah!!! Best bit of all was just after the wind picked up proper, when had got going properly for about the first time when sailing in, charged into the shore, pulled off a neat duck gybe, sailed out again and realised I was about the only person still out! Everyone else had run for cover to change down from their 5.0s, whilst I was still out on the water grinning from ear to ear having made the correct decision of sticking with the 4.5. Nice.

Kept on sailing until my body just couldn't take any more, and I was just too tired and too overpowered to be able to gybe. A solid session, not really a 5 star effort due to the crapness at the start and being too tired/overpowered at the end to really go for anything with much success. But still, easily 4 stars.
